The Exchange Club of Hanover is pleased to announce the recipient of the Tommy Laudani A.C.E. Award for 2024. A.C.E. stands for Accepting the Challenge of Excellence and is awarded to a graduating senior who has overcome many obstacles to get to graduation. Our award is named after our 2018 recipient, whose courageous battle with cancer exemplified strength and courage. Our partnership with the Tommy Laudani Delone Dash has enabled this year's recipient to receive a scholarship for their first year of college.

A.C.E. is an acronym for Accepting the Challenge of Excellence. The award recognizes high school students who have overcome difficult times and obstacles, yet still have managed to graduate from high school and excel in some area. These students have overcome great physical, emotional or social obstacles, but few receive recognition.
This positive program has two key objectives. First, it helps encourage students to overcome their hardships and get back on track toward a high school diploma. Second, the award recognizes those students who are often overlooked for their accomplishments. This special recognition serves as a powerful example to all students that hard work and perseverance really do pay.
The Exchange Club of Hanover works with area high school counselors to have qualified students submit an application for the A.C.E. Award. The student, as part of the application form has to submit two narratives. In the first narrative, the student has to describe in his/her own words his/her plans for the future to make his/her community and world a better place to live. The guidance counselor also has to submit a narrative describing the problem(s) the student faced and how it was overcome, including implications for the future.
The club makes contact with the area high school counselors beginning in mid-December of each year. The A.C.E. Awards presentation is made the first Tuesday in May at a general membership meeting of the Exchange Club of Hanover.
This meeting will fall on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
Deadline for applicants to file their application is March 31, 2024.
The winner receives a plaque and is awarded a college scholarship.
The winning application is then submitted to the Mid-Atlantic District A.C.E. Awards Committee for consideration. If the Hanover A.C.E. Award winner is selected as the district winner, they and their parents/guardians will be guests of the Mid-Atlantic District Exchange Club at their annual convention, usually held in June. As the winner at the district level, the individual will be presented a $1500 college scholarship at the convention.
The district will then submit the winning application to the National Exchange Clubs A.C.E. Awards Committee for consideration and if they are chosen as the national winner, they and their parents/guardians will be guests of the National Exchange Club at the National Convention, usually held in July. At this convention, The National A.C.E. of the Year recipient receives a $15,000 scholarship and the opportunity to address hundreds of Exchangites at the National Youth Recognition Luncheon.
All travel accommodations will be provided the winner and his/her parents/guardians. The ability to attend both the district and national conventions is part of the criteria when Exchange Club of Hanover chooses the winning applicant.
